Destiny 2 is Making More Changes to Stasis Abilities for PVP

Bungie has announced changes regarding Stasis in Destiny 2: Beyond Light, giving Guardians a preview of what separate sandbox changes could look like.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light introduces a new Darkness Subclass called Stasis. Since its release, Stasis has had a few changes to its effectiveness in an attempt to balance it with the rest of Destiny 2. Stasis gives Guardians the ability to wield cosmic ice powers to slow and freeze their enemies across the Sol System. Compared to the Light Subclasses, the Darkness Subclass, Stasis, has been a popular choice among Guardians.

Bungie has broken down the Stasis Subclass differently than the Light-based Subclasses. The new Aspects and Fragments system allows for more customization of the Subclass giving Guardians options in how they wish to spec out their characters. Some Stasis Abilities have been proving to be quite strong and oppressive in PVP. Bungie announced some new changes to the Stasis Subclasses coming in a future patch on March 23, 2021.

The Duskfield Grenade is getting a reduction in its pull range from 9.5 meters to 6 meters in PVP. It will also get a reduction to the detonation slow stacks from 20 to 10 stacks and will add slow stacks half as fast from 10 stacks per tick to 5. These changes are for PVP only and will not affect PVE. Lastly, Bungie will be adjusting the UI presentation of the “Slowed” status to display stacks out of 100 instead out of 10.

The Stasis Crystals will have their Shatter damage reduced against Guardians from 85 max, 55min to 55 max, 25 min. PVE damage will not change. The Whisper of Chains damage resistance will be reduced while in Super from 25% to 5% and will only affect damage from other Guardians. The Whisper of Torment is getting a bug fix to prevent it from continuously activating while standing inside an opponent’s Barricade.

Starting with the Revenant Hunter, Bungie is removing the damage resistance from Shatterdive and adding a four second cooldown between activations. This should reduce the amount of Shatterdive spam in the Crucible, making it less oppressive to opposing Guardians. This change will also force Hunters to be more strategic when they use their Shatterdive.

Bungie is also tuning the Withering Blade Melee by decreasing its damage from 90 to 65. On top of that, Withering Blade is having its slow stacks reduced from 60 to 40 stacks. This change means that Withering Blade will no longer be able to freeze a Guardian on its own, with the max stacks from both charges only adding up to 80 out of 100. Finally, Bungie is decreasing the Withering Blade target acquisition after it impact the first Guardian, from 12 meters to 8 meters. These Withering Blade changes are for PVP only and will not change in PVE.

The Glacial Quake Super for Titans will no longer freeze Guardians when cast in PVP, but will retain this function in PVE. Overall damage resistance while in Super is reduced by 10% from 60% to 50%. Shiver Strike will now cost more Super energy to use, increasing from 3% to 7%. Using the Combo of a Shiver Strike into a Heavy slam attack will cost full Super energy from both Shiver Strike and the slam, previously it only cost the energy of the slam. Shiver Striking a slowed Guardian will now pull them out of the air more effectively.

Warlocks Winter’s Wrath projectiles will get increased tracking with its tracking strength decaying over 10 seconds instead of 2.2 seconds. The Warlock Supers projectiles will get an increased proximity detonation from 1.5 meters to 1.65 meters. This proximity detonation looks to have a decaying effect dropping down to 40% over time.

The Warlock’s Penumbral Blast is getting its damage reduced from 80 to 30 but will still instantly freeze targets. This change will not affect PVE damage. Warlock’s Iceflare Bolts will be fixed and shouldn’t try to switch targets. The Iceflare Bolts are also getting increased target acquisition range by 33% and increased turning speed so they can more effectively hit nearby targets.

The Stasis tuning patch will go live on March 23, 2021, but might be delayed if any issues are found before the release of the patch. This patch seems to be indicating that Bungie is embracing separate sandbox balancing changes for PVP and PVE, something Guardians have been requesting for a long time. The next big change for Stasis is the addition of Legendary Stasis weapons coming in future seasons.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
