In order to complete one of Fortnite's Season 5 Week 9 challenges, which went live on Thursday, January 28, players will need to shakedown an IO Guard. To finish this task, fans will need to know where they can find one of these NPCs and how the actual shakedown is performed. Clarifying these two aspects of this new Fortnite challenge is the exact purpose of this guide, and players that read on should be able to tackle this task without much trouble.
To begin, IO Guards can appear in 20 different locations, which span the entirety of Fortnite's map. This makes finding one of these NPCs quite an easy endeavor, as a player is almost never very far from one regardless of their current position. That said, fans that are struggling to find an IO Guards can reference the map below, as it highlights all of the possible spawn points for these enemies.

Upon locating IO Guards in Fortnite, players can move on to the next part of the challenge, which is shaking one down. To do this, fans should simply fire on the group of NPCs that they find until they have knocked down all but one of them. They should then approach one of the knocked down IO Guards, carry them to a safe position, and press the "shakedown" input that appears on screen to complete the challenge and collect their 20,000 XP reward.
To note, this week's Legendary Quest also centers around shakedowns, and it will be fully complete when that action has been performed against 25 opponents. While these opponents can certainly be other Fortnite players, it is also possible to finish this task by exclusively shaking down IO Guards. Fans that want to pursue this approach will undoubtedly need to visit a number of the IO Guard locations indicated on the map above, but it may still be the fastest way to address this Legendary Quest.
It is also worth mentioning that IO Guards can be used to complete another of the Fortnite Season 5 Week 9 challenges. More specifically, it is the challenge that instructs players to deal damage while in water, and indeed damage done to NPCs will be counted toward it. While it is certainly true that not every IO Guard spawn point will facilitate dealing damage while in the water, fans that have not completed this challenge may want to try to capitalize on the opportunity if and when it arises.
Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
