The Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut DLC has finally launched, bringing plenty of new content to the game for players to enjoy. One of the big additions made through this Borderlands 3 expansion is the Diamond Armory aboard Sanctuary 3, but if players want to get in, they will need to acquire a Diamond Key.
Fortunately, Borderlands 3’s Diamond Key system is simple enough to understand. While players will need to have RNG on their side in order to get the keys, the way to obtain them is fairly straight forward. Before players begin their hunt, though, they need to make sure that the Director’s Cut has been bought and downloaded to their platform of choice.

One of the big Director’s Cut additions is the Vault Card mechanic, which is essentially a new battle pass mechanic for players to work through. While there will eventually be three Vault Cards added to the game, only one is available now, with the current card called Fallen Heroes. After activating it, players will see a new XP bar added to the bottom of their screen.
From there, Borderlands 3 fans simply need to level up and earn XP. This can be done by playing any mission and killing any enemy, though daily and weekly challenges will also be available via the Vault Cards. As players progress, the new bar at the bottom of the screen will fill up, providing access to a Vault Card Crate once filled. These crates can contain several items, including a random piece of gear, Eridium, a Vault Card cosmetic, or a Vault Card Key, with the Key allowing players to choose any cosmetic or weapon from the card to unlock. Crates can also contain Diamond Keys, though they are extremely rare — ensuring that players will need to keep unlocking crate rewards to get one.
Once Borderlands 3 players have gotten lucky enough to get a Diamond Key, they can access the Diamond Armory on Sanctuary 3. Once inside, the key will need to be inserted into the Diamond Chest at the center of the room. From there, panels will drop down on all three sides of the Armory, each offering a ton of different Legendary items. On the left side, players can find shields, with mods on the right and guns on the center wall. One item can be taken from each of the panels.
It is also worth noting that players in the Diamond Armory are on a time limit, meaning that they only have so long to scan each wall for a good item. As such, prioritizing one or two walls would be best, taking a random item from the third instead. Once an item has been taken from every wall, Borderlands 3 fans can open the Diamond chest for a fourth item. It is guaranteed to be a Legendary piece of gear, ensuring that players get plenty of loot from each of the rare keys.
Borderlands 3 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
