Playtonic Games, the studio behind Yooka-Laylee and its sequel, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, will allegedly be rebranding very soon. Announced through a message to its backers on Kickstarter - and picked up on by Twitter user Logan Meyer - the developer claimed that the decision is in service of something new for the studio, telling readers that "there is a good reason for us doing so."
For those unacquainted with Playtonic, the team was originally formed back in 2014, launching a Kickstarter for a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie called Yooka-Laylee. The game was a significant success on the crowd-funding site, raising over $2 million for the game's production.

When it officially released, it was met with middling reviews, however, fans were quick to celebrate the game's loving ode to the days of seminal 3D mascot platformers such as Banjo and Conker. The team eventually made a quasi-sequel in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, which ditched the 3D platforming of the original for a 2.5D perspective. It was a huge success, pulling in good reviews and since being remembered as one of the better platformers of recent years.
The studio's announcement is no doubt intriguing, with the team citing that the rebrand is important to its future plans. It seems whatever Playtonic is planning, it'll be a big next step for the team and will hopefully shine a light on what project it'll be pursuing next. Whatever it is, it seems fans will know sooner rather than later, with the studio teasing that "all will be revealed soon."
