Maces were one of the most important weapons in an army because of their bludgeoning power. When they were used in close combat, they could break the chain mail or body armor of the opposing fighting force. They could also break doors and walls along with smashing enemies, and their historic use echoes in the RPGs where they also appear as a weapon class.
