More Fighting Games Should Follow Mortal Kombat 1's Marketing Approach

Mortal Kombat 1 is less than a month away from its release, and its marketing strategy should lay the groundwork for other fighting game franchises.

Just like any other part of the entertainment industry, video game marketing is often a complex and expensive beast. While word of mouth is still one of the best forms of video game marketing, big AAA video game releases can't rely on that alone to make their money back, and that's where trailers, convention appearances, and big announcement livestreams come into play. Big games demand a lot of attention, and though many titles have obviously had successful marketing campaigns, Mortal Kombat 1 might end up setting a new precedent, at least for the fighting game genre.
