Fans who want some added difficulty alongside even more fantasy in their Minecraft games should love these mods that will remind them of Dark Souls.

It's hard to think of many games in the past decade more impactful than Mojang's Minecraft. This smash-hit survival and crafting simulator has had a grip on gaming, YouTube, and pop culture for almost ten years and doesn't seem likely to fade away anytime soon. Between its beautifully simple gameplay, shocking elaborate crafting recipes, and iconic game design, it's no wonder Minecraft attained this titanic status.

Of course, the most important quality of Minecraft is freedom. It's a game that lets players do virtually anything they can imagine. It's also very open to modding and customization, so why not inject another iconic game from the 2010s like Dark Souls? Fans looking for a bit more difficulty and fantasy added to their Minecraft experience should look no further than these mods.

10 Sekiro: Heroes Are Revived By Agent_vr

The first mod is inspired by Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice as opposed to Dark Souls, but Sekiro is very much in the same vein of dark fantasy which Fromsoftware has become popular for making. The "Sekiro: Heroes Are Revived" mod adds the Kusabimaru sword, the Mortal Blade, and other items and components from Sekiro to Minecraft.

While this isn't quite Dark Souls, it will make the game feel quite like Dark Souls. This mod doesn't appear to have been updated since Minecraft version 1.15, so it is uncertain how it will work with later versions of the game.

9 Bloodborne Texture Pack By Epsilon40

Here, we have another Dark Souls-like mod as opposed to the real thing, but Bloodborne is even more like Dark Souls than Sekiro in many ways.

This Bloodborne-inspired texture pack brings the weapons, enemies, and world of Bloodborne to Minecraft. It retextures the pre-existing items, mobs, and environments to resemble the creeping nightmare world of Yarnham and may even break player's minds while it's there.

8 Bloodborne Rom By Vemerion

This mod actually adds an entire Bloodborne boss battle to Minecraft with Rom the Vacuous Spider. It brings the iconic monster and its spider allies to a recreation of the fight on Moonside Lake.

As a bonus, this mod also retextures the iron sword to resemble the Saw Cleaver from Bloodborne to make the fight feel even more reminiscent of the showdown with Vacuous Rom.

7 Rough Mobs Revamped By P1ut0nium_94 And Lellson8

This mod brings some of the Dark Souls difficulty to Minecraft with toughened mob enemies with new powers and abilities. Creepers can go invisible, zombies can have enchanted weapons and armor, and the whole world generally wants to kill players harder than it ever has before.

This mod can even add boss encounters to add even more of a Dark Souls feel to player's Minecraft world. Obviously, Dark Souls didn't invent boss monsters and difficult gameplay, but this mod is more intended to put the game in Dark Souls proximity more so than Dark Souls itself.

6 Mythic Resource Pack By FishyMint

The Mythic Resource Pack is a high fantasy mod to Minecraft that makes it feel more like a classic fantasy game. While Dark Souls is a more recent fantasy game, many of its aesthetics draw on the fantasy RPGs of old.

Mythic is a lovingly-made return to older fantasy videogame visuals and is actually worth checking out even for players not strictly looking for Dark Souls-inspired additions to the game.

5 Dark Souls By Pyroplay

This mod is more of a straightforward attempt to inject Dark Souls into Minecraft. It's a mod that adds new kinds of weapons, biomes, enemies, and even Dark Souls-inspired boss battles. Furthermore, it inserts a new variety of workbench that allows the player to craft the boss soul weapons from Dark Souls.

For players just looking for a little slice of Dark Souls in their crafting world, this is a mod well worth downloading. However, anyone that tries it should be prepared to die.

4 Dark Souls Resource Pack By Killerferrets

This is a resource pack for Minecraft that is recently made and updated. It adds many of the iconic aesthetics, textures, and designs of Dark Souls to player's crafting world. It's a resource pack, so it doesn't really alter the gameplay all that much, but sometimes fans only want to feel like they're in Lordran without actually returning to Lordran.

On top of that, it appears that Killerferrets will go back to work on this mod soon, so there may be more from this resource pack yet to come.

3 Dark Souls By Delvlees

This is another mod that adds the weapons, armors, and enemies of Dark Souls to Minecraft worlds. Players can equip the armor of Artorias the Abyswalker, Dragonslayer Ornstein, Executioner Smough, and many other memorable armor sets from the game.

The one caveat is that this was uploaded back in 2016, and Delvlees says that he has since lost the files and may be unable to update and upgrade the mod. No new posts from Delvlees have been added to the post in years either.

2 Dark Souls Legacy by SGGeroy

"Dark Souls Legacy" is a resource pack intended to help the player rebuild the memorable locales of the original Dark Souls by adding the textures and color palettes that made up Lordran. This is another resource pack that hasn't been updated since 2015, so it requires both an older version of Minecraft and an above-average PC system to avoid framerate issues.

All of that said, it's still a gorgeous resource pack that will take players back to Lordran and longing to fight off undead warriors, skeletons, and Black Knights.

1 Craft Souls By Amaxter325

Finally, we have "Craft Souls." It's another older Minecraft mod, but it takes the spirit of Dark Souls rather than just trying to recreate its elements in Minecraft. Players have to work to build their campfires, use a matchbox to relight their torch, and fight their ghost to retrieve equipment should they ever die. It gives an upgraded level of difficulty to Minecraft.

This one will require an older version of Minecraft to run, as it was uploaded back in 2016. That said, it seems quite worth it given the creativity and spirit put behind it.
