Mortal Kombat 1 was intended to be both a soft reboot and a sequel for the now 31-year-old series. Following the story that was set up in MK11, Mortal Kombat 1 did so successfully by entering a new timeline filled with alternate versions of classic characters. The introduction of a multiverse of timelines only expanded upon the potential for continuous reinvention of the series. With seemingly endless directions the story could take, players are left to follow the clues as to what comes next.
