The action-RPG era of Final Fantasy is still going strong, with Final Fantasy 16 under its belt and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth fast approaching. While most mainline Final Fantasy entries have some sort of action twist to their turn-based combat, Final Fantasy 15 marked the transition over to full action-based gameplay, and both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16 have further refined that approach. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake games settled on a mixture of menu and action-based gameplay, while Final Fantasy 16 distinguished itself by committing to becoming a 3D hack-and-slash game.
