Updated April 28th, 2021 by Brittni Finley: Stardew Valley's newest Version, 1.5, is now available for all platforms except mobile devices. More and more players return to Stardew Valley to experience the massive 1.5 update in all of its glory, including Ginger Island, and sometime in the future, players who prefer Stardew on mobile can utilize the below tips for finding golden walnuts, necessary for exploring Ginger Island.

Finding golden walnuts is an important part of the 1.5 Stardew Valley update and unlocking the secrets of Ginger Island. Here's how players can find all 130 golden walnuts.

Golden walnuts are the currency of parrots on Ginger Island, a new island introduced in the Version 1.5 update to Stardew Valley. To unlock Qi's Room in Stardew Valley, players will first have to find 100 golden walnuts around Ginger Island, but these walnuts can be traded for Qi Gems. Qi Gems can be traded for special rewards, such as recipes, golden eggs, magic bait, and Galaxy Souls. A total of 116 golden is needed to unlock all of the rewards in Qi's shop. Keep in mind that the 100 golden walnuts in Stardew Valley will not be consumed to unlock Qi's Room and can be used on rewards afterward.

***Players should first start off finding golden walnuts in Stardew Valley by visiting Leo's hut on the eastern side of Ginger Island. Follow the young boy, Leo, who runs away when the player first arrives on the island. On the next screen in the jungle, a golden walnut is located clearly in a tree and should be given to the parrot on the next screen to the north inside Leo's hut. Afterward, this parrot can also provide the player with hints and tell them how many undiscovered walnuts are in each location.

However, the parrot in Leo's hut will only provide hints for 123 out of 130 maximum golden walnuts located on Ginger Island. The parrot will not provide hints for the following golden walnut locations, which have all been noted in this guide:

  • 1 golden walnut located on the bush in the eastern region, inside the Gem Birds shrine puzzle
  • trading a banana for 3 golden walnuts at an altar outside Leo's hut
  • winning the Darts Game, located in the Pirate's Cove, which yields 3 golden walnuts

In the rest of Ginger Island's eastern section, golden walnuts can be found

  • on the tree inside Leo's hut, producing 1 golden walnut
  • trading a gorilla for 3 golden walnuts by placing a banana on the altar next to the staircase leading up to Leo's hut
  • on the path to the Gem Birds shrine puzzle, 1 golden walnut is located in the bushes on the southmost edge of the screen

As for the Gem Birds puzzle, a puzzle off of a hidden path further into the east side can be completed to reveal another 5 golden walnuts. On rainy days, a bird will appear randomly throughout the island a drop a gemstone, which should be taken to this puzzle and placed on its corresponding altar, depending on which island region the gem was obtained in: north, south, east, or west.

***A number of puzzles can be completed in this area to located more golden walnuts on Ginger Island:

  • Completing the Pirate Wife's quest will give the Stardew Valley player 5 walnuts as a reward
  • The Gourmand Frog will ask the player to harvest a melon, wheat, and garlic in that order for a total of 15 walnuts
  • A Simon Says puzzle in a cave north of Tiger Slime Grove awards 3 walnuts
  • Hitting the whack-a-mole animal on the beach will offer 1 walnut.

Additionally, locating golden walnuts on Ginger Island's western region can also be done with various random actions as well, rather than being found in set locations, such as:

  • Defeating slimes around the map will occasionally drop golden walnuts
  • Harvesting crops for a total of 5 golden walnuts
  • Mining the mussel rocks south of the Ginger Island farm will unlock another 5 golden walnuts
  • Fishing for a maximum of 5 golden walnuts, which can be done anywhere on Ginger Island
  • Tilling the land where patterns such as Xs in the sand or diamonds of sea stars will award the player with golden walnuts

General exploration around the new Stardew Valley island will also yield golden walnuts:

  • 1 golden walnut located on the ship
  • 8 golden walnuts located in trees on Ginger Island

Again, walnuts can be revealed by digging in the center of patterns, such as rock circles and flower circles, for a total of 8 golden walnuts. At the entrance of the Volcano Dungeon, use a Stardew Valley watering can on the lava to make a path to the left; an exit will open up to reveal 2 walnuts on bushes. North of the dungeon entrance, a golden walnut is hidden in a tall tree that can be knocked down with a slingshot. Another 5 can be found in plain sight by exploring the area.

***The Volcano Dungeon is one of the prime locations for golden walnuts in Stardew Valley, especially when many other locations have already been exhausted. A total of 19 golden walnuts are located in the Volcano Dungeon and can be found in a number of ways:

  • Defeating enemies
  • Destroying objects
  • Mining rocks
  • Looting chests, but if a golden walnut has already been yielded from that chest, it will never reproduce another golden walnut
  • 2 golden walnut trees are on the 10th floor

On a rainy day in the new update to Stardew Valley, a mermaid will appear on a rock in the water. Play the mermaid's song with flute blocks to earn 5 golden walnuts in Stardew Valley. To play the mermaid's song, set one flute block on top of each set of stones to the right of the one with a music note on it. These stones will indicate how many times the flute block should be pressed to tune; a small stone indicates 1 step while a large stone signifies 5. After tuning them properly, the player should run alongside them from right to left. If the song is played correctly, they'll be awarded the 5 golden walnuts.

On a non-rainy day, go to Pirate Cove after 8 PM and play the darts game to get 3 golden walnuts. After building a beach resort, visit the starfish-shaped tide pile and fish in it to yield 1 walnut. Another 3 golden walnuts can be found in bushes and by digging in the center of patterns.

Additionally, fishing in the ocean around all of Ginger Island can yield a total of 5 walnuts, and similar to having Clint crack open a geode, opening a golden coconut for the first time will reveal a golden walnut inside.

Stardew Valley is available now on mobile devices, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One.
