These expansive open-world games don't exactly provide players with a waypoint and checklist of objectives for when they first start their adventure.

Open-world games have become one of the industry's most popular genres, with staples like Grand Theft Auto becoming hallmark examples, due in part to their driving mechanics. The unlimited amount of things to do, side missions to complete and maps to clear have defined the genre for quite a while. But some open-world games aren't in it for the busy work.
