Destiny 2's current Season of the Chosen is in its home stretch as Guardians jump in to get last-minute grinding done and claim victory in the Guardian Games. As Season 14 looms, fans are wondering what the new season will be, and what the season sandbox update will hold for weapon balancing. Bungie's community team offered a tease for the latter ahead of the second-to-last This Week at Bungie (TWAB) post for the current season.
Season of the Chosen saw Guardians battle Empress Caiatl's Cabal after the latter's homeworld was ravaged by the Hive god Xivu Arath and Caiatl's attempts to bring The Last City under her reign. As the city and Caiatl are now on peaceful terms, Guardians' gazes turn toward what new threat could be looming on the horizon.

It appears Bungie is going to start pulling back the curtain about next season with Thursday's TWAB post, and community manager DMG offered the first tease of its contents on Twitter today. DMG says he is working with the Destiny 2 weapons team to outline all the buffs hitting as part of the update. While DMG does not go any further, he does tease heavy weapons will be a point of focus with the upcoming update.
Bungie already outlined some of the weapon nerfs on the way for Season 14 earlier this month. The first weapon nerfs the team spoke about will be to aggressive frame hand cannons and shotguns, two of the most commonly used weapon archetypes in Destiny 2's PvP. The Quickdraw and Frenzy perks are also set to receive nerfs after becoming two of the most sought-after weapon perks for Season of the Chosen.
The developer also said Reservoir Burst is also undergoing changes, though its unknown whether this means the sunset Loaded Question fusion rifle is returning or if it will be on a new fusion rifle for Season 14.
Aside from weapon changes, Bungie is looking to do quite a bit with the newest season. Transmog is set to make its Destiny 2 debut in season 14, though fans have not been happy with the system Bungie outlined. One change fans are happy about is the end of sunsetting after Bungie admitted it was not working in February's state of the game post.
Other than those changes and the weapon nerfs, not much else is known about Season 14. The latest rumors suggest it will be titled Season of the Splicer, which teases a focus on the Fallen and maybe even the return of SIVA. Aside from the Zero Hour exotic mission, the dangerous nanotech created by BrayTech has not been seen in any key story points since Destiny: Rise of Iron. Given the focus on the Fallen and Clovis Bray in Beyond Light, there is a distinct possibility this could be the theme for Season 14.
Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
