Final Fantasy 16 was a big gamble for the storied franchise. The game featured an action combat system and eschewed many of the series' staples, most notably the traditional party system. These decisions have made Final Fantasy 16 a controversial but ultimately successful entry in the series. FF16's success can also be attributed to the fact that it shipped with a complete story, as Final Fantasy 15 required fans to watch trailers, a movie, and play DLCs to get the full experience. FF13 had multiple sequels. The self-contained nature of Final Fantasy 16 made it easier to engage with, and easier to walk away from feeling satisfied.
