Baldur's Gate 3's potential DLC could draw inspiration from Throne of Bhaal, a Baldur's Gate 2 expansion that took villains in a new direction.

In 2001, the expansion pack Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal surprised fans by offering not just an exciting new adventure and the long-anticipated conclusion to the games' Bhaalspawn storyline, but also the ability to recruit iconic Baldur's Gate villain Sarevok Anchev as a playable character. Depending on their choices, characters could even redeem Sarevok and turn him away from Bhaal's murderous influence.
