Cyberpunk 2077 is a massive game with plenty of fun things players can do if they find themselves bored of the main story.

As millions of fans are currently exploring the dark oasis that is Night City, they are sure to be making their way through Cyberpunk 2077’s main story. But sometimes, players might not feel like doing another main story mission.

Perhaps there is just a bit too much dialogue, or maybe players want to just stretch out the game a bit longer. Luckily, there is a huge number of things that players can do other than following the story. Although some of them may not be for the faint of heart, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Updated April 30, 2021, by Thomas Bowen: Thanks to a plethora of patches and hot-fixes pushed out over the past few months, Cyberpunk 2077 is a lot more playable today than it was at launch. Unfortunately, however, most players who bought the game on release day have probably long since completed its main story. With the online mode and DLC still nowhere to be found, these players may now find themselves at a bit of a loose end. While they could simply pick up another game to hold them over while they wait, there are plenty of interesting ways to squeeze a bit more life out of Cyberpunk 2077 before departing Night City.

13 Test Out Some Mods

Although it's still relatively early days in the grand scheme of things, the modding community has already released some fantastic mods for Cyberpunk 2077. Some of these offer quality of life or visual upgrades, but others can completely change the way that players interact with Night City and its many inhabitants.

There's a great selection of weird mods for Cyberpunk 2077 too, including one which completely removes all of the people from Night City. Once installed, the city's streets become reminiscent of those depicted in movies like 28 Days Later and I Am Legend. It's a little strange at first, but gives players a chance to really take in all of the finer details in the game.

12 Go On An Easter Hunt

Many developers like to pay homage to other video game series by hiding Easter eggs in their titles for adventurous players to discover. Although a little less common, some even like to include elements from television shows and movies. As it turns out, CD Projekt Red is one such developer.

Cyberpunk 2077 is loaded with Easter eggs, including references to the Harry Potter series as well as several relating to the developer's excellent Witcher trilogy. It's also possible to find Hideo Kojima in one of the game's missions as well as one of the baby pods from his latest title, Death Stranding.

11 Revert Back To Version 1.0

For as buggy as Cyberpunk 2077 was around the time of the launch, it was still incredibly entertaining. In fact, there's a strong argument to be made that the many bugs and glitches that blighted the game at launch were at times far more entertaining than the main story itself.

Flying cars, people falling randomly from the sky and NPCs and vehicles randomly clipping through walls are just some of the many messed up things that await players who delete and reinstall the game. It's even possible to get one of the story NPCs to constantly follow V around everywhere he goes, which can make for some truly hilarious moments.

10 Become A Superhero

Night City is not the safest place in the world. Like, it is actually incredibly dangerous to do something as simple as a walk down the street. Someone needs to step up to save the people of this city and that person could be the player.

Check out the map to discover the location of assaults currently in progress. They are denoted by a blue symbol with a baseball bat. But be careful, not every assault will be an easy task for Super V. Keep an eye out for that danger indicator on the map!  Players will build up street cred as Night City’s cybernetically-enhanced crusader in no time!

9 Become An Agent Of Law And Order

Crime doesn’t pay. Well, actually, in this game it kind of does. But it is totally unfair that all of these gangs get to work together for their pay while V is mostly just a lone ranger. It’s time to put on a pair of cop-shades and start bashing skulls.

As players explore Night City they will occasionally hear the sounds of gunfire in the distance. If they follow this noise, they should find a blue star icon on their mini-map. This indicates that there is currently a crime in progress for them to break up however they see fit.

8 Hang Out With Joytoys

So, you have found yourself in the (not-so) great neighborhood of Jig-Jig town. Sure, there are some pachinko parlors over this way, but let’s skip that for a bit. There are some more adult activities you are able to partake in if you know who to ask.

Check out your map to look for a white symbol with an image of lips. There are a couple of different options available to you here and across the map, but they all function essentially the same. Shoot some EuroDollars to their account and get treated to a brief cutscene that is sure to entertain the more explicit side of V.

7 Grow Your Car Collection

As you explore the various districts in Night City you will meet a handful of different fixers. Fixers are the local crime-bosses in Cyberpunk 2077. Aside from giving you jobs to do, they will also periodically offer you the chance to buy a new vehicle.

These are expensive. Like, buying-a-new-car-in-real-world-money expensive. That means you will likely have to save up a bunch of your ill-gotten gains in order to upgrade your rig. But, let’s be honest, the starting car is not what you expect someone as cool as v to be driving, so it’s totally worth the money. These cars are so cool they have even found their way into Forza.

6 Become The Ultimate Cyborg

One of the coolest (and most prohibitively expensive) aspects of Cyberpunk 2077 is your ability to alter your physical body with upgraded components. Just head to your local ripper doc and make sure you have the EuroDollars to make your cybernetic dreams become a reality.

Need new eyes? Got it. Feel like you should be able to jump higher? Get new legs. Want to become a terrifying monster whose arms open to reveal blades like you are Baraka from Mortal Kombat? You know that’s an option!

5 Hunt Down Cyberpsychos

There is a horrific mental illness burning its way through Night City’s streets. It is called Cyberpsychosis. Essentially, when people have too many cybernetic implants and augmentations to their body they are at higher risk of developing this dissociative disorder.

As you can imagine in a world like this, there is a good number of these sad souls you must track down around the map. Keep an ear out for calls from Regina Jones. She will let you know where Cyberpsychos are and reward you for capturing them alive.

4 Help Out Your Friends

As you explore Night City and the surrounding area you are sure to meet a huge variety of characters. While most of these are just going to be people you shoot to death immediately, there are sure to be a few you want to hang around with.

Make sure you are constantly checking your text messages and calls from these people you hold near and dear to your heart. You will get a chance to do special quests from these characters and may even get some romantic options if you stick around long enough.

3 Get Some Cool Threads

As you explore the various districts in and around Night City you are sure to pop into your inventory screen only to wonder how anyone can take you seriously in your mismatched, neon-green, and red outfit. This simply will not do.

Save up some EuroDollars and head to your map to find a white icon with an image of a jacket on it. These locations scattered around the map are clothing shops. Each region will have its own unique clothing options for you to wear and actually look cool while making your way through the game.

2 Become The Go-To Guy For Fixers

As you have probably realized, it is not cheap to live in Night City. In fact, it is pretty expensive. Even a can of soda can cost 10 Eddies! That is why it is important for you to do some gigs to make a bit of an income. Running around trying to get Keanu Reeves out of your head is fun, but it doesn’t pay as well as some of the other jobs around town.

Fixers will call you when you get close to a gig. Listen to what they have to say and then read the text message they send you immediately following the call. This will brief you more on the mission and what you will have to do. These can make you a ton of money, but they can be incredibly dangerous, so be careful!

1 Track Down And Capture Rogue AIs

One of the first side-quests you get after the intro of Cyberpunk 2077 is also one of the funniest parts of the game. Your AI-taxi friend, Delamain, needs your help tracking down some of its cars. They seem to have developed a personality of their own and need to be brought back in for maintenance.

While this may seem like a cut and dry fetch quest-chain at first, it is actually so much more than that. There are seven cars for you to track down and each has its own humorous bit of backstory and even includes a few pop-culture references gamers are sure to enjoy. The quest is incredibly spread out but is well worth the time and effort to complete.
