Bungie is adding another new change to Destiny 2: Beyond Light, and this Seasonal Challenge system is going to replace weekly bounties.

It looks like even more big changes are coming to Destiny 2: Beyond Light, with a new Challenge system appearing. Bungie revealed that Destiny 2 is moving away from weekly bounties and introducing Seasonal Challenges.

Fans of the sci-fi first-person shooter will have spent a lot of time with weekly bounties. These were typically big objectives connecting to ritual activities. In an attempt to reduce the fear of missing out, FOMO, Bungie is making a switch with this system. With the replacement Seasonal Challenges, the developer has more freedom to develop interesting objectives for Guardians.

When the new system comes to the game, players will be able to access it through the Quest Log or Season Pass. Each week will have a unique set of challenges, giving a reason for players to hop back on consistently. It will last for the first 10 weeks of a new season, offering plenty of time for gamers to take part. While some of these objectives will focus on seasonal content, others will tie into the various modes throughout Destiny 2.

One thing to note is that the challenges can only be done once per account. That said, they can be completed anytime and without needing to be grabbed from a vendor. For Guardians not able to check in every week, Bungie is providing some much needed flexibility. While it sounds like the main reward will be XP helping to boost Season Pass Ranks, there can be other types too. From the blog post, it sounds like Bright Dust, Seasonal currency, and other items are on the table.

Recently, it seems like there are all kinds of updates coming for Destiny 2. Dealing with FOMO is a good start, because it allows players to engage with the game at their own pace. While grinding is part of the experience, outside life can come first for most Guardians. By this point, some fans were likely sick of constantly cycling through weekly bounties, so the Season Challenge system should be a nice change. It will also cut down on the grocery list of talking to vendors since the objectives can be completed at any time.

On the other hand, certain players could be skeptical of major changes like this. Weekly bounties are a consistent way of earning XP and rewards, but challenges could be tougher to do. And as far the language goes from Bungie, extra rewards are by no means a definite. Nevertheless, the Seasonal Challenge system will be a new way for players to enjoy the world of Destiny 2.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
