Captian Flameheart is a menace on the Sea of Thieves. Here's how you can find him and take him down.

Captain Flameheart is one of the most notorious figures in Sea of Thieves. The Skeleton Lord appeared in-game for the first time in 2019, but he was teased in an E3 trailer as far back as 2016. Flameheart was one of the key additions in the Seabound Soul update a couple of years ago.

The Lord and his ghost fleet can still be seen patrolling the waters in Sea of Thieves. Many new players will happen upon his fleet and sink before they know what happened. Fighting the Captain can be a challenging and arduous task, but it is possible even with the solo sloop. This guide will cover how to find and defeat Flameheart's fleet.

Finding the fleet is not very challenging. Captain Flameheart is the gigantic Ashen Pirate head in the sky, and players will likely spot him from miles away. The fleet patrols the Shores of Plenty which is at the center of several common outposts. Specifically, the fleet will be close to Cannon Cove and surrounding islands. Pirates that have explored the Shores of Plenty for an hour or so are bound to run into the Captain and his fleet.

Pirates that have just spawned into the outpost will want to gather a few items before taking on Flameheart and his ships. Players will need at least 80 cannonballs. These can be looted from the supply barrels at the outpost. Having a decent supply of food is also essential. The Ashen ghosts, cannonballs, and gunpowder barrels will inflict a lot of damage. Gamers will want to eat constantly to keep their health bar full. The final items needed to take on the Ashen fleet are wood planks. Around 50 or so planks should be enough to repair all of the holes in the ship during each wave.

The initial wave in the fight tasks pirates with defeating seven ghost ships. Each ship will only take three cannonballs to sink, and any type of cannonball will work. The best strategy when fighting the ghost ships is to keep moving. It is a smart idea to kite the ships around the islands in a circular route.

Gamers can then focus on taking down the ships one at a time and limit the number of cannonballs the ghost ships can land. Ships that stand still will sink after just a couple of minutes. Every ghost ship will drop supply crates to keep sloops in the fight.

Once all seven ghost ships have been defeated, a captain ship and two ghost ships will spawn. Pirates will want to turn their ship so that the cannons face directly toward the bow or front of the ghost ships. By parking right in front of them, players will be able to spam cannonballs and sink the powerful captain ship. After ten cannonballs connect, the captain ship will sink. Gamers will have to take down a second captain ship once it spawns using the same technique.

The next wave will be the same as the first. Pirates should keep the same route around the islands and take down ships one at a time. Players need to remember to harpoon the supply crates to make sure they have enough food and cannonballs for the final wave. At this point, supplies are probably low, so getting each crate will be more important than in the first wave. Gamers need to heal up and make sure their ship is in good shape before Flameheart's final test.

In the last battle, sloops will need to take out two captains and the final boss. Using the technique in wave 2, gamers will be able to dispense of the captain ships without too much concern. Players will want to take down the captain ships before the boss to ensure they can recover all of the loot from them. It is a lot easier to take down all of the ships by destroying the regular ghost ships before taking down the captain ships and Flameheart's vessel.

Third-party pirates are common, so people need to be aware of their surroundings while finishing up the last wave. It is demoralizing to get this far only to be killed by another player. In each of the engagements, pirates will want to create slightly more distance than in wave 2. There will be nine total ships to account for at once, making it harder to focus on just one captain ship. At a certain distance, none of the ghost ships will fire back. If the captain and ghost ships do fire back, they will usually only land a cannonball or two, which is an easy repair. With patience and persistence, Flameheart's ship will fall into the depths of the sea.
