People Can Fly is rolling out inventory restoration for some Outriders players, starting with those who lost items and can't log in.

The looter-shooter Outriders by developer People Can Fly experienced a surge of popularity and a number of technical issues when it launched at the beginning of April. The game was prone to crashes and long load times, players could get stuck on the loading screen, character classes were imbalanced and, perhaps worst of all in a game that centers on collecting loot, a glitch wiped some characters’ inventories.

Most of the issues plaguing the game have been fixed or are in progress and, while some gamers seem ready to wait it out, many others have decided to move on. The overall player count of Outriders has dropped from a peak of 125,000 around launch to a current average of 19,000. One of the major causes of this loss in interest is the fact that, although the Outriders inventory bug has been fixed, players who experienced losses haven’t had their items restored, until now.

Promised over two weeks ago, Outriders inventory restoration has begun for Group A characters. According to a post on the game’s unofficial subreddit, Group A is comprised of those characters who not only experienced an inventory wipe but also are no longer able to log into the game. Once Group A’s inventories have been recovered, People Can Fly will move on to Group B, which consists of characters who lost items but are still able to log in and play the game.

Not all lost inventory items will be recovered, and the developer stresses that inventories may not be restored with 100 percent accuracy. All items that were equipped on a character at the time of the wipe will be restored, as will all Outriders legendary items that were in the inventory. For non-legendary gear, only 20 items that were in the inventory will be recovered, with prioritization based first on rarity and then the date the loot was acquired.

If a character’s inventory is full, restored items will be held server-side until enough space is cleared in the inventory and the player has logged out of Outriders and then back in again. Additionally, all fully completed Accolades will be restored if the player had reached that Accolade’s final tier. However, interim tiers or any progress made towards an Accolade tier cannot be recovered.

This partial inventory recovery may displease some players, but the loss might be balanced by an unexpected bonus. Players who have characters in Group A may also have up to 20 previously sold legendary items recovered to the inventories of non-affected characters. These restored inventory items will be god-rolled, meaning they will be as good as or better than the original equipment, and can be scrapped, sold, or used as the player wishes.

Outriders is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
