It's hard to believe that The Wizard of Oz turns 85 this year. The film made huge strides in every area of cinema, from elaborate (if not always safe) costumes and props to its effortless blend of black-and-white and Technicolor worlds. The Wizard of Oz added an emerald glow to many of our childhoods: annual Thanksgiving marathons of the film ensured it was introduced to generation after generation, with surely more to come after the Wicked movie is released later this year.
