Although the initial reception of Gen 9 games was not great on the technical and performance side, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are arguably one of the biggest upgrades the series has gotten in modern times, and they are in the same league as Pokemon Legends: Arceus in these regards. Part of what made Pokemon Scarlet and Violet incredible games is the fun one can have with a fully open-world Pokemon game, encountering critters in the wilds and exploring every nook and cranny in search of secrets or easter eggs. However, as much as The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk DLCs further improve the experience of playing Gen 9 games, they fall flat in one big area where Pokemon Sword and Shield preemptively succeeded.
