Balatro relies heavily on RNG, even for the standards of roguelikes. That is to say, completing a successful run depends in no small part on dumb luck. The increasingly wide variety of powerups also means that drawing the right ones becomes more and more rare as more parts of the game are unlocked. But with those late-game additions, more complex strategies become possible.
