In his debut title, Sonic Adventure 2 for the Sega Dreamcast, he dies saving the world from the monstrous Finalhazard. However, hed amassed such a fan following that Sega brought him back in future games. The lore was changed to say he didnt die but was rescued by a Badnik and placed in stasis for a future in the Sonic franchise.
