The PS1 version of Final Fantasy 7 had seven core party members consisting of Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, Barret, Red 13, Cait Sith, and Cid. There were also two optional party members, which was a popular mechanic in 90s RPGs, meaning players could also recruit Yuffie and Vincent in their adventure, bringing the maximum up to nine.
