While Cartoon Network's 2003 Teen Titans series is unusually serious, gritty, and dark for a children's program, the show stops short of depicting intense harm or true-to-life violence. The Titans and villains alike may destroy buildings or hurl buses through the air, but the show is also sure to acknowledge the Titan's insistence on arresting Jump City's criminals, rather than killing them. The rest of the team is alarmed when Raven loses control of her emotions, coming close to harming their adversary, Doctor Light, beyond recovery. The priority of the episode quickly becomes about Raven regaining her senses so as not to seriously endanger anyone else. When the Titans battle allies, like Terra and Robin when both separately served a stint as Slade's apprentice, the young heroes offer ample opportunities for surrender, making themselves vulnerable in the process.
