BL manga rarely get anime adaptations, but when they do, it can be jarring for first-time viewers. Many of the adaptations are of popular titles that feature toxic tropes and unfavorable themes. This can throw newer fans off the genre in its entirety, as a lot of the BL that has been made into anime is problematic.
