The Shapeshifter, a new Game Boy game from Green Boy Games reaches another one of its Kickstarter stretch goals and promises an NES release.

After surpassing its original goal by 504% on Kickstarter, the new Game Boy game The Shapeshifter by one person dev team Green Boy Games officially sets its sights on its biggest stretch goal yet. With over 20,000 euros pledged on top of the original goal of 6,000 euros, The Shapeshifter is officially coming to the NES as well.

The Game Boy (and now NES) exclusive has reached all of its previous stretch goals in lightning speed. It was just four days ago that The Shapeshifter reached the stretch goal to have two additional chapters added to the game. In fact, the only goal left for the project's Kickstarter campaign is to have two more chapters added.

While The Shapeshifter isn't the only project being developed for the Game Boy in 2021, with the news of an NES release it will likely be the only game coming to not one, but two retro consoles all year. It also marks the first Green Boy Games release for the NES. The Barcelona developer has previously released five other titles, all for the Game Boy.

There is no word currently on whether the NES version of the game will have altered graphics to take advantage of the addition colors available on Nintendo's original home console, but at the very least the port will allow players to experience the game on a bigger screen. It seems to be the trend for most modern day games for classic systems to also get a steam or itch.io release, but Green Boy Games says The Shapeshifter will be released as a rom and physical cartridge only in order to keep the spirit and gameplay of the Game Boy alive.

The Shapeshifter is aiming for a May 2021 release.
