The Netflix Geeked Twitter account (formerly 'NX On Netflix') just unveiled some seriously impressive new images from their upcoming Masters of the Universe sequel series (known as Masters of the Universe: Revelation). It's hard to decide what's the coolest part between everyone's beefy arms and anime-eyes Orko, so why not just say it's all cool?
The Twitter account showed off several high-quality shots from the new Kevin Smith-created series, highlighting a number of recognizable fan favorites. Not to be confused with Sony's own live-action Masters of the Universe film currently trudging its way through filming limbo, Smith's offering aims to capture the style of the original cartoon while still keeping things fresh. As seen in these photos, they seem to have accomplished both goals quite well, at least from a visual standpoint.

Nowhere is this more apparent than with series villain Skeletor, set to be voiced appropriately by Mark Hamill. Instantly identifiable as the same character fans have grown to love from the original show as well as countless memes over the years, the creepy caped cad looks positively sinister in his classic outfit, thanks to a redesigned face. He looks more evil, more dangerous, and just flat out meaner. Masters of the Universe seems to be less of the wholesome She-Ra sort of reboot and more like the recent, gritty iterations of Tomb Raider.
Yet another standout change is the welcome amount of totally buff women showcased in several of the shots. The contrast between Teela (voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar), in particular, and her previous versions is quite striking, showing off what the kids probably like to call "one darn tootin' heck of a glow-up." Many users in the replies pointed out how the women's designs are reminiscent of The Legend of Korra, at least in terms of musculature, and it's not difficult to see why. Though their fascination with the designs appear to be just a bit less scientific and a bit more in the realm of nigh unquenchable thirst.
Ok enough of that. The point is, Masters of the Universe: Revelation appears to have nailed the look, both as a tribute to the original and a new direction. He-Man himself kind of looks like a boulder with a harness and a sword, but where would this franchise be without muscles upon muscles glistening in the sun? Besides, his regular form as Prince Adam is way tinier and boyish, so maybe the contrast is the point.
Needless to say, the excitement is there for this upcoming revival. There's no telling how it will turn out in the long run, but the talented team behind it already inspires plenty of faith in what might be in store. Just don't expect the same campy weirdness that came with the original. Or maybe do expect it. This is a Kevin Smith production, after all.
