Dying Light 2 developer Techland has released a second AMA video full of information about the characters, story, open-world events, and factions.

Dying Light 2 developer Techland has released a second AMA video dedicated to answering questions about the upcoming game. Today's video highlights a number of new details in a variety of areas, including what fans can expect from Dying Light 2's characters, story, open-world events, and various factions.

Techland has officially confirmed that there will be no returning characters from the first game. As Dying Light 2 takes place 15 years after the original and isn't dependent on players being familiar with the first Dying Light game, this decision makes sense. However, the two games still take place in the same world. The Dying Light cast may not return in the flesh, but protagonist Kyle Crane will still be mentioned and his decisions may still affect how Dying Light 2 plays out.

The Global Relief Effort will be appearing in the new game, mostly in the form of free-roam events – of which there will be a lot. Associate producer Julia Szynkaruk has stated that there be far more open-world events in Dying Light 2 than there were in the first game. The living world will have encounters scattered throughout it, of course, but players will also be able to explore brand new locations, including GRE Quarantines and Dark Places, each of which will contain more random events and dynamic encounters.

The AMA also touched on the game's two main factions, the Peacekeepers and the Survivors, and how players can expect to interact with them. Despite the heroic name, the Peacekeepers are a militaristic regime that wants to kill as many infected as possible, while the ominous-sounding Survivors are community-focused and prioritize adapting to this new world above anything else. Working with the Survivors may be a better idea, as doing so will grant players extra equipment that can be used to traverse Dying Light 2's enormous open world. A third faction, the Renegades, will come into conflict with players no matter what, though players will still have multiple options for dealing with them.

By far the biggest reveal came when Szynkaruk addressed the ending of Dying Light, where Kyle Crane has the option to either detonate a nuke to destroy Harran – and the virus with it – or kill the mother, become infected, and flee, thus becoming a carrier for the virus. Smektała said that the outcome of the original game will play a huge part in the events of Dying Light 2, which doesn't bode well for Crane. New protagonist Aiden Caldwell already has an advantage over Crane in the characterization department. If, as fans theorize, Crane is responsible for the current state of the world, the hero will definitely have become the villain.

Dying Light 2 is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
