Star Trek's United Federation of Planets, which is also referred to simply as the Federation, may be intended to represent the good guys, but even sci-fi's most progressive utopia has a few skeletons in its closet. While the Federation has many positive aspects, it has clearly stated goals as a leader in intergalactic politics and often uses subterfuge, violence, or betrayal to reach them.
