Dragon's Dogma 2 sets one standard for the next installment, so now a sequel can focus on improving what the second game missed instead.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of 2024's most talked-about games, both positively and negatively. Controversies surrounding its microtransactions and familiar gameplay mechanics have met its praise head-on, resulting in its success regardless. By and large, Dragon's Dogma 2 is more of a remake than a sequel, as it has taken the core mechanics of the first game and simply upgraded its visuals and quality of life for a more modern experience. Even the title screen reads "Dragon's Dogma," as opposed to "Dragon's Dogma 2," seemingly indicating its remake status above its status as a direct sequel to the first game. Still, the success of Dragon's Dogma 2 has nonetheless set expectations for a third game in the franchise to arrive at some point.
