The world of ‘Resident Evil’ returns in a new trailer for the upcoming Netflix anime series, which is set to premiere this July.

Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming anime series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. After a long wait and several reveals over the past few months, the extended trailer was finally released on Tuesday night, which focuses on conspiracy theories, politics, and of course a horde of zombies.

Fan-favorite characters Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield return for the animated series and are at the forefront in the trailer. Apart from leaving fans of the Resident Evil franchise excited about their return, the trailer also confirms the series’ release date and it’s coming up soon. The much-awaited anime series premieres on Netflix on July 8.

The trailer offers a glimpse of the excellent CGI used to create the series. All the way from the opening scenes of the Penamstan civil war, to the features of the main characters and zombies, the animation is one of the most appealing factors of the trailer. The clip also offers the right amount of action and mystery, and promises the same amount of jump scares that the games in the franchise offer.

The trailer sees Kennedy and Redfield reunite and possibly team up again as there could be another outbreak. Redfield is seen working on uncovering a conspiracy that could go as deep as members of the White House. Suddenly, the lights go out and in true Resident Evil fashion, a horde of zombies arrives. The heroes must not only protect the president, but also uncover the cause of the latest outbreak and its connection to Raccoon City. The trailer ends with an appearance from a mysterious green monster, which could result in the ultimate boss fight.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is based on Capcom’s extremely popular game franchise, with survival horror being a running theme since its inception. Resident Evil is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, as the first game in the franchise released in 1996. The Netflix series will be set in the year 2006, and the plot will follow the events of Resident Evil 4. Four agents, including Kennedy, will be invited to the White House to investigate a hacking incident on a top secret file, which obviously leads them down on a path towards zombies. Meanwhile, Redfield will look into a secret experiment that was conducted during the war, which could possibly be responsible for the outbreak.

Nick Apostolides and Stephanie Panisello will reprise their roles as Kennedy and Redfield. The new actors joining the team are Ray Chase as Jason and Jona Xiao as Shen May. Jason is known as the “Hero of Penamstan”, as the former captain of the US Army special forces team Mad Dogs who saved his unit during the civil war. May on the other hand is a federal agent skilled in computer science. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is directed by Eiichiro Hasumi and composed by Yugo Kanno.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness premieres on Netflix on July 8, 2021.
