The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes gets new teaser trailer, highlighting the game's antagonist, setting, and when players will find out more.

The Dark Pictures anthology has already released two iterations of its short moral-choice-focused horror games, with Man of Medan tasking players with exploring a haunted ghost ship back in 2019 and Little Hope dropping them in a town plagued by witches last year. The next entry in the series, The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes, is slated for later this year, with a post-credit stinger for Little Hope revealing it'll take place in the subterranean ruins of a temple deep below the Arabian Desert.

Earlier today, Bandai Namco revealed a brand new teaser for the upcoming horror game, setting up its terrifying antagonist and giving players a little more insight into its premise. The short look at the game is capped off with the reveal that more will be coming very soon, with House of Ashes slated to get a full gameplay reveal on May 27. It's interesting that Bandai Namco has decided to show off the game prior to E3, where it will allegedly have some sort of presence.

Regardless, the teaser mostly focuses on House of Ashesunderground labyrinth setting, showing soldiers moving through the location as they're stalked by what will assumedly be the game's main threat. Some of the trailer is even framed from the perspective of the creature, as it seemingly uses echolocation to navigate the tunnels and, at the climax of the footage, catch its prey. According to Supermassive Games, the foe will be an "ancient and unearthly" monster, and the trailer makes it plenty clear that it's incredibly quick and not very friendly.

The footage gives players a quick new glimpse at the game's protagonists too, including Ashley Tisdale's lead character. Her appearance is brief throughout the footage, but she looks to be teamed up with another soldier, as the pair investigate the temple ruins they've found themselves stranded in. The fresh look at House of Ashes is short but still offers enough to get fans of Supermassive's horror-focused narrative adventures excited.

For those who missed House of Ashes reveal last year, its story takes place in 2003, following a group of American soldiers searching for chemical weapons in Iraq. After being attacked by Iraqi soldiers, a rift in the earth is opened, submerging both groups underground into a series of inescapable ruins. As the trailer makes plenty clear, finding a means to free themselves from the location is the least of their worries, as the labyrinth's haunting inhabitants awaken and begin hunting their uninvited guests. The game currently doesn't have a release date, although fans are sure to get more information on May 27.

The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes is slated for release in 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
