The indie Metroidvania genre is in a great place in 2024, with the recently-released Animal Well already proving to be one of the year's best indie experiences, and the highly-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong on the horizon. While Hollow Knight: Silksong is still lacking a release date after a series of delays, the game has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Animal Well as another indie Metroidvania hit. However, the two games share just as many differences as they do similarities, showing just how deep games in the Metroidvania genre can get.
