Ever since its first episode aired in November of 2019, the latest series of the Pokemon anime, Pokemon Journeys, has been full of surprises. Rather than placing Ash Ketchum and co. in the newest region introduced in the latest generation of Pokemon games like nearly every other season of the anime, Pokemon Journeys instead sees Ash and his new friend Goh travel to a different region in the Pokemon world almost every episode.
While Ash and his friends have usually only captured a few Pokemon per season, Goh has completely strayed from that norm. In Pokemon Journeys, Goh acts much more like how players might act in a Pokemon game, catching as many different species of Pokemon as possible, even throwing a Poke Ball at them from the get-go most times like players do in Pokemon GO. And now, in the latest episode of Pokemon Journeys, Goh has captured the fan-favorite Legendary Pokemon Suicune.

While Ash and Goh worked together to capture the Legendary Pokemon Eternatus in an earlier episode, the Pokemon couldn't join the trainers on their journey as it had to be sealed away due to its immense power. But this time around, it seems that Goh will be able to keep a Legendary Pokemon for the first time. Despite Ash encountering Suicune multiple times throughout the entire course of the Pokemon anime, Goh shocked Pokemon fans everywhere by capturing it rather easily, as many fans hoped he would.
Episode 53 of Pokemon Journeys sees Ash and Goh travel to a lake in search of Suicune, who has recently been spotted in the area. The trainers come across a group of Pokemon hunters looking to capture the Aurora Pokemon in a less civil manner, but when they do manage to trap Suicune in a net, Goh attempts to save it by throwing a Poke Ball at it. To everyone's surprise, Suicune allows itself to be caught by Goh in order to escape the hunters, but the Legendary Pokemon later manages to escape Goh due to its distrust in humans. However, after Goh manages to form a bond with Suicune by helping it heal, the Pokemon hunters capture it a second time, but it escapes yet again with the help of Ash and Goh.
Afterwards, after Goh has gained its trust, Suicune allows itself to remain captured by the trainer, though it will still roam the world helping other Pokemon in need, while Goh can call upon the Legendary Pokemon whenever he needs it. Although many fans are excited to see a parallel to how mainline Pokemon games work, where trainers can capture most Legendaries, some have argued that the anime gave Goh a Legendary Pokemon too early.
With Suicune on Goh's roster and powerful Pokemon like Dragonite and Dracovish joining Ash's team, this season of the anime has shaped up to be arguably the most exciting one yet. It will be interesting to see what else Pokemon Journeys surprises fans with in the future.
