In the Paper Mario universe, players get to meet all kinds of new people and creatures alongside the ones seen in the original Mario platformers. Players still have plenty of chances to stomp on Goombas, Koopas, and Pirahna Plants as the game goes on, but with the help of Mario's partners, they'll also meet and understand Puffs, X-Nauts, and Clefts - all unique creatures that can be found in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
