Fan artist Jaxson Derr produced an impressive depiction of Natalie Dormer as Batman villain Poison Ivy, and it works remarkably well.

The creativity of fans is a force that will seemingly never run out of juice. From artist renditions of their favorite characters to a surprisingly detailed write-up of Detective Columbo debunking the entire Star Wars series (yes, really), it's that creative spark that keeps these franchises alive well beyond their own life spans. These fan works also provide fascinating "what if" scenarios, such as this one of a particularly fabulous-looking Poison Ivy, which shows Natalie Dormer as the iconic Batman villain.

Fan artist Jaxson Derr specializes in their own spins on classic superheroes, particularly movie versions. But apparently, they've taken a bit of a shining to long-time Batman villain and precious love of Harley Quinn's life, Poison Ivy. That fondness has given way to a pair of pieces depicting Game of Thrones' (and, as some may have forgotten, Mass Effect Andromeda) Dormer as the lady in green, and it works almost well enough to be a leaked casting announcement.

While the first piece from September 2020 appears to have a more stylized look, depicting Dormer's Ivy in a Christ-like arms-out pose, the second one (just posted in May 2021) takes full advantage of the actress' naturally unique facial features. Derr added a sinister-looking dark shade around Dormer's eyes, enhancing their already cool and calculating look. Meanwhile, Poison Ivy's leafy "outfit" (or is that just part of her body? It's honestly difficult to tell with her various incarnations) appears largely the same between the two looks, with only a few stylistic adjustments between them.

These pieces of artwork really do justice to the character, who has been enjoying a bit of a resurgence in popularity partly thanks to her excellent depiction by voice actress Lake Bell in the HBO Max Harley Quinn series. The most recent season ended with Harley and Ivy finally ending up together in a romantic relationship as the two drove off towards, presumably, more mayhem, but that isn't the only area where Ivy might be making some strides. Even Margot Robbie has been pushing for Poison Ivy to be included in a DC Extended Universe movie, and now the idea of seeing Robbie's Harley Quinn interacting with Dormer as Poison Ivy sounds like a match made in supervillain heaven.

Dormer doesn't just fit the Poison Ivy bill in terms of her physical appearance. Hearing her voice for just one second is enough to convince anyone that her raspy, mysterious tones would fit insanely well in character as the environmentally-focused crusader. Her appearance on Elementary, one of the best-regarded recent Sherlock Holmes adaptations, proved that she can pull off an American accent, which would fit with most of Ivy's interpretations. Though, to be fair, her nationality isn't exactly central to the character, so a nice natural British accent might work even better.

Well, this quickly became just a geek-out session about unlikely casting choices, but that's ok. This is about fan art, after all, and what is fan art if not geeky dreams persevering? Apologies for the shameless pilfering from WandaVision. But suffice it to say, Derr has a real gift for art, and this Poison Ivy piece is a wonderful testament to that.
