An inventive PlayStation fan takes apart a PS5 and remakes it into a smaller, more compact design that looks nothing like the original PS5.

Since its release back in November of last year, the PS5 has been met with a great deal of popularity. With inventory selling out minutes after getting restocked, the PS5 is one of the most highly desirable video game consoles currently on the market. Though, a common complaint that a number of fans have about the system is its exterior design.

The console design of the PS5 has been a point of debate ever since it was unveiled last year. When it was first revealed, the PS5 console design was subject to a lot of memes, portraying it in both a positive and negative light. In many ways, the PS5's design is sleek and unique, but some fans find the console to be bulky and difficult to store. However, one user actually managed to reengineer the PS5 to make it about a third of its original size.

A talented YouTuber by the name of DIY Perks, who previously made a PS5 out of brass, uploaded a video that showcases how to take apart a digital version of the PS5 and rebuild it into a much tinier system. The finished product looks almost nothing like the original console design as the console's base and faceplates have been removed and the middle portion is covered in a glossy wood varnish. It looks more like a log cabin appliance than a video game console.

Over the last several months, plenty of fans have modified their PS5's or customized them in some way. The number of custom PS5 console designs to surface online is impressive, but this new version by DIY Perks stands out. With nearly every custom console, they still manage to maintain the look of the original console design, but with this smaller PS5 barely anyone would be able to tell what it originally was.

It's astounding how much room for customization the PS5 has allowed compared to other PlayStation iterations. There are a lot of customized PlayStation consoles that require a great deal of work in order to create, such as one user's customized, water-cooled PS4 Pro with a Cyberpunk 2077 theme. However, numerous design elements in terms of both the PS5 and the DualSense controller allow for easier customization.

It will be interesting to see what else PS5 users get up to in the coming months. With the addition of removable faceplates on both the PS5 and the PS5 DualSense controller, there will certainly be even more impressive customized controllers and consoles that will surface online in the future. Hopefully, DIY Perks will also have more creative PS5 videos to make.
