Ubisoft's Far Cry series has always been about players surviving against insurmountable odds in some of the most exotic locations around the world. One of Ubisoft's biggest franchises, Far Cry has had an excellent track record when it comes to satisfying gameplay and relatively engrossing stories. Far Cry 6 will presumably be no different.
Far Cry 6 is the latest in line, and fans are clamoring to know more about the game. After an elongated period of silence, Ubisoft has finally announced a gameplay reveal event scheduled to go live on May 28. However, there's a great chance that Far Cry 6 might just be more like Far Cry New Dawn.

Gameplay evolution in Far Cry games has started to plateau in the last few years, which has contributed a lot to its current identity and reputation. That being said, the series has continually evolved in many subtle ways to better suit its audience, and trends suggest that Far Cry 6 might just be a bold step in reinventing the gameplay. Spin-offs, in particular, have been instrumental in subtle improvements to the series.
Far Cry 5 introduced a new quest structure, wherein players were free to pursue any boss area they like and everything contributed to the main story. The roots of this change can be traced back to the spin-off entry, Far Cry Primal, which saw protagonist Takkar take on enemy tribes in a similarly open-ended fashion.
Far Cry New Dawn, Far Cry 5's spin-off entry, introduced some RPG elements into the standard Far Cry template in the form of tiered enemies. While the change wasn't received well unanimously, there's a great chance that Far Cry 6 might just crank it up to eleven and take an Assassin's Creed-esque turn.
Ubisoft's other biggest franchise, Assassin's Creed, saw a similar revolution. Originally a social stealth-focused open world, Assassin's Creed slowly and steadily transitioned into an action RPG with entries like Odyssey and Valhalla. It's certainly caused a lot of distress in the community, but continued critical and commercial acclaim has dictated the RPG transformation has become the immediate future direction of the series.
Far Cry 6 is already taking bold steps in terms of its narrative, forgoing survival elements of its predecessors for a tale surrounding dictatorship and rebellion. Protagonist Dani Rojas is a native to the land of Yara and is on a mission to overthrow the tyrant Anton Castillo, which is a far cry from the usual "escape the land" seen in previous entries. With a lot to live up to, a radical change of gameplay might be a risky move, but jives well with Ubisoft's current portfolio.
Ubisoft is known for developing huge open worlds, with a bunch of post-launch content to keep players engaged for a long time. The transition to an open-world RPG structure has allowed the developer to fully realize its vision, with Assassin's Creed Valhalla planned to receive DLC support until the end of the year. Far Cry 6 could very well be the next in line for receiving a lite version of the same treatment, which can have huge ramifications for the future of the franchise. Far Cry New Dawn had tiered enemies and tiered weapon progression, so Far Cry 6 could follow a similar gameplay progression.
That's not to state that such a conversion is bad, as many fans prefer post-launch support rather than annualized entries in the franchise. Since the Far Cry 6 reveal event is right around the corner, more information would be shelled out soon.
Far Cry 6 will release for Amazon Luna, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
