The story of Zenless Zone Zero revolves around the Hollows, a calamity that causes disordered dimensions. Hollows appear out of thin air and can contain monsters called Ethereals. The Hollows disaster wiped out the "old civilization," but New Eridu was reborn from the ashes. Although the Hollows is still a prominent issue and a massive threat, people have areas where they can live peacefully. New Eridu even found a way to monetize the Ethers from the Hollows.
