Cruella star Emma Stone shuts down the rumors that she is reprising her role as Gwen Stacy for Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Emma Stone recently addressed the persistent rumors that she is reprising her role as Gwen Stacy for Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: No Way Home. There’s been growing speculation that several characters from the Sony Spidey films will appear in the upcoming sequel.

Stone last played Stacy in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The fifth theatrical Spider-Man film saw Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker attempt to take down Jamie Foxx’s Max Dillon/Electro. Near the end of the movie, Stacy fell to her death after being kidnapped by the Green Goblin. The blockbuster earned mixed reviews from critics and grossed a franchise-low $708 million worldwide. In 2015, Sony and Marvel announced that a new iteration of the web-slinger would be featured in the MCU.

While specific plot details for Spider-Man: No Way Home have yet to be released, the multiverse will reportedly have an important part in the film. The blockbuster is also rumored to have a live-action Spider-Verse element, which brings to question if past Spidey actors will make a cameo appearance in the film. Former Spider-Man stars like Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Kirsten Dunst, and Stone have been linked to the project, but nothing regarding these casting rumors has been confirmed by Marvel Studios or Sony. During an interview with MTV News, Stone asserted that she isn't involved with the film. "I have heard those rumors. I don't know if I'm supposed to say anything, but I'm not [involved],” she said before adding, “I don't know what you're supposed to respond as an alumnus (laughs)."

Stone’s denial comes after Garfield downplayed the rumors that he would appear in the blockbuster. While the actor admitted that he’s read several fan theories, he insisted that he wasn't approached to be in the film. Meanwhile, Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx are reprising their respective roles from previous Spider-Man iterations. Molina notably played Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus in 2004’s Spider-Man 2.

Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei are returning for the highly anticipated sequel. No Way Home was directed by Jon Watts and will take place following the latest sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home. Holland has asserted that the film will deliver everything audiences might expect from a superhero blockbuster. The highly-anticipated film wrapped production earlier this year and is part of Phase Four of the MCU.

Stone can be currently seen alongside Emma Thompson in Dinsey’s Cruella. The live-action prequel to 101 Dalmatians offers a re-imaged origin story for the iconic Dalmatian hoarding thief and follows Estella, a young grifter who is determined to find success in the fashion world.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to be released on December 17, 2021.
