Fans were shocked when Michael C. Hall announced he would be returning to the Dexter universe, in the sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, and also as 'the inner voice of Dexter' in the prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin. The limited series, Dexter: New Blood came to an end in early 2022, and many fans thought that was the completion of the serial killer's story. Dexter had been shot in the chest by his teenage son, Harrison, and was bleeding out on the snowy floor of a wooded area in the small town of Iron Lake in upstate New York.
