One of the best things that a piece of art can do is inspire others to create something either from a different perspective within the world or simply with a similar artistic feel as the original. In the case of a recent piece of concept art, one artist has looked at The Last of Us in order to draw inspiration for a dark collection of survivors that have a striking similarity to Naughty Dog's iconic characters.
This newest piece comes from Concept Artist Morten Krebs, who regularly makes these types of elaborate art pieces from various inspirations apart from their professional work. In the case of this The Last of Us 2 inspired piece, this isn't exactly a remake of a shot directly from either game in the series, but more of a reimagining of a separate corner of the world.

The art piece itself is a stunning showcase of a group of survivors making a base in the ruins of an old Japanese restaurant that has been otherwise abandoned during the cordyceps outbreak. Several people can be seen filling the space, either chatting at a table in the center of the room, on guard on the upper floors, and coming in from an unknown mission out beyond their defended position. It's the kind of setting that players can hope to see in The Last of Us 3, or however Naughty Dog decides to continue exploring this post-apocalyptic universe.
Since the piece was first posted by Krebs, fans of The Last of Us have quickly gathered around the piece to show differing levels of appreciation for the concept art. The most common types of comments that can be found around the original post to reddit are requests for a location like the one depicted to appear in a future game somewhere. Considering how well the atmosphere and aesthetic of the piece blends into what players are used to in The Last of Us, it likely wouldn't feel too out of place, and might make for a good set-piece for an encounter against an enemy faction.
This type of setting could possibly make for a good location to appear in The Last of Us 2's upcoming multiplayer, though fans shouldn't hold their breath to see the exact restaurant recreated in-game. Still, as far as fanart inspired by games goes, this is a strongly artistic example of taking a personal interpretation that adds even more layers onto the established world. It makes for a stunning tribute to a game series that many fans still hold as one of the highest accomplishments on the PS4.
The Last of Us 2 is available now for PS4 and PS5.
