Though gaming historians are divided on which game was the first to feature one, minigames have been around since at least the 1980s, with old PC sports games like Olympic Decathlon technically featuring a compilation of smaller games inside one package. Over the last few decades, minigames have become an increasingly prevalent part of the gaming landscape, often appearing in larger-scale open-world RPGs, where they appear alongside traditional side missions and world activities.
