EA announces that a former Call of Duty and Destiny general manager is appointed to the same position for the Battlefield franchise.

Battlefield published Electronic Arts has made it very clear that it is investing heavily into the Battlefield franchise. It previously announced that it has devoted five studios to finishing up the series' newest entry, and now it has hired a former Call of Duty executive to be the new general manager of the franchise.

EA's new appointee is Byron Beede, a former general manager on both Call of Duty and Destiny. EA's announcement also stated that Beede's appointment was part of a long-term commitment to growing the franchise. This means that Beede will likely work on getting this year's Battlefield to release, but will primarily influence where the series goes from there.

The complete future of the series is obviously still a mystery, but there are some pretty significant clues about where EA may be wanting Battlefield to go. The competition between Battlefield and Call of Duty is well known, and Beede's hiring likely indicates that EA is looking to find some of the same success that Call of Duty has in recent years. While the general manager of the series, Beede oversaw the launch of the very successful Call of Duty: Mobile. EA announced earlier this year that it is developing a Battlefield mobile game to release next year, so Beede's experience will likely come into play.

Beede also oversaw the development and launch of Call of Duty: WarzoneCall of Duty's free-to-play battle royale counterpart. A new battle royale mode has not been confirmed for this year's Battlefield release, but it has appeared in some of the game's various leaks leading up to its announcement. Battlefield has had a battle royale before, but it failed to find the traction or staying power that Warzone has, so EA could likely be hoping that Beede can bring a better result this time around.

It will be interesting to see what direction Beede takes Battlefield in after the launch of this year's title. The lead-up to Battlefield 6's reveal has been rife with leaks, but players thankfully only have to wait until June 9 to see the official reveal. Very little is known about Battlefield's upcoming mobile title as well, so fans will have to see how Beede and the teams translate Battlefield's large-scale conflicts to the new platform. Hopefully, fans will not have to wait too much longer to see just what kind of developments Beede will bring to the franchise.

Battlefield 6 is currently in development.
