Silent Hill: The Short Message may have missed the mark, but its shift to a first-person perspective makes a compelling case for future titles.

Silent Hill: The Short Message was one of the biggest surprises at the PlayStation State of Play in January 2024. Few could have expected PlayStation and developer Konami to announce a brand-new, PlayStation-exclusive title, especially one that would shadow-drop later that day. From the moment Silent Hill: The Short Message was revealed, it was unlike any franchise entry in the series long history. Reception to the overall experience was mixed, but few could argue that The Short Messages first-person perspective didnt work wonders for the IP. The Silent Hill franchise is set to release a variety of titles soon, and all signs point to the focus remaining on traditional third-person experiences. However, Silent Hill: The Short Message shouldn't be the last time the series goes for first-person horror.
