While slasher fans are excited for the upcoming reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer, the reboot needs to do one thing in order to be truly compelling and memorable. While many modern slashers are engaging, there was something special about the film that was released in 1997. Along with Scream, which came out the year before, the movie started a trend of funny, sometimes cheesy, and always entertaining slashers that would continue for several more decades. The story of Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and her friends accidentally killing someone who then chases them to get revenge is timeless and perfectly eerie.
