Different camera modes work for different scenarios in No Man's Sky. Here's how to switch between them.

A couple of years ago, Hello Games added the option to switch between first person and third person camera views. Despite No Man's Sky's disastrous launch, the developers have redeemed themselves with a wave of updates over the past few years. For example, in the initial version of the game, explorers were stuck in first person.

Hello Games listened to criticism from the community, and finally added the camera feature in the summer of 2018. The changes apply to camera view while operating vehicles as well. People can follow the simple steps below to see both in first and third person.

RPG games are traditionally third person games. Over the past several years, though, a lot of developers have created RPG/survival games in first person. A first person view is more immersive, but it limits the field of view of the player. Third person views provide more directional awareness and more real-time information to gamers. These steps let players change the camera view in No Man's Sky:

  • Press down on the D pad
  • Tab over to the utilities option (gear icon)
  • Scroll over to toggle camera view on the right

While the third person view may not be as wide as it could be, it still provides a better view in game. Additionally, people will be able to see their character move around the universe. What is the point of traveling across solar systems and becoming a great figure in the galaxy, if explorers are unable to flaunt their clout?

To change the view while piloting a vehicle, follow the same steps as above, but select the "switch (insert vehicle name) view" option in the menu.

  • Press down on the D pad
  • Tab over to the utilities option (gear icon)
  • Scroll over to "switch (insert vehicle name) view"

A third person view helps immensely when fighting in the Starship. In first person, it is impossible to see ships above, below, or behind the Starship. It may look cooler in first person, but having a cockpit view during a space battle is difficult. When searching worlds, the wider view provides a much better picture of the planet and all its elements.

With the few steps outlined above, gamers can choose to play the game how they want to. Toggling between both views is probably the best way to enjoy everything No Man's Sky has to offer.
