The concept of witchcraft traces back as far as medieval England, when society deemed it fitting to trial any woman they believed to be practicing black magic. The most prominent example of these procedures is the infamous Salem Witch Trials, which occurred between February 1692 and May 1693 and saw more than 200 individuals accused of witchcraft. Ever since, the conceptualization of witches has been integrated into pop culture through the celebration of Halloween, as well as varying portrayals in entertainment media such as movies, TV shows, and video games.
