Biomutant: How to Upgrade Mekton | Game Rant

The Mekton does a great job of keeping players safe in Biomutant, and better, the robot giant can take a number of aesthetic upgrades.

The world of Biomutant would be a dangerous one for players to navigate without some sort of ally or companion alongside them. Granted, the Automaton never leaves players' side, but still, some enemies are far larger than that, and most environmental hazards are downright deadly. Thankfully, that's where the Mekton comes in.

Spawning the Mekton is as easy as making sure it's in a space that can handle the mechanical monolith. However, upgrading it is a whole different story as it first requires locating Mekton Wrekboxes. Biomutant players will come across the first chest during the main quest "Skrong Salvage." However, it's a little hard to know where exactly to go to upgrade it.

First, players will need to collect a few of the Mekton Wrekboxes before the icon shows up. In total there are 14 Mekton Wrekboxes to collect in Biomutant. That wouldn't be an easy task without some quick way to traverse the landscape, though no worries there. Taming mounts makes going from one location to the next a lot easier, especially since the Mekton is restricted to the Deadzone.

A lot like the Googlide, upgrading the Mekton is as straightforward as locating a wrench in the bottom right-hand corner. To do so, one would press down on the D-pad, or 4 for PC players. Selecting this brings up the equipment menu, allowing for players to customize their Mekton as they see fit. Even more convenient, all the customizable parts new to players' inventory are marked with a star.

Appearances aside, what should be noted is that the Mekton upgrades have no effect on its damage output. None of the individual pieces come with any stats, numbers, or true indicators that the machine was made stronger or weaker. That's not entirely a bad thing - the Mekton is pretty powerful as is, and it also allows for players' Mektons to look as creative as possible without sacrificing power or durability. Not to mention, the ultimate weapons in Biomutant more than make up for any lack of firepower.

On the other hand, if the whole of Biomutant was too easy, it might be worth giving it another playthrough. Now that the post-apocalyptic RPG has a new Extreme-mode as a part of its recent major patch, players may find that even the Mekton can fall a little short when they can't summon it.

Biomutant is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
