With the "Blackwood" Chapter launching for The Elder Scrolls Online, existing players and new players have three ways they can start the new Chapter.

It has been over seven years since ZeniMax Online Studios first launched its now critically-acclaimed MMO The Elder Scrolls Online. Over the years, players have been treated to hundreds of hours worth of story quests across the base game and its first four expansions. Now, players will be able to take on the forces of Mehrunes Dagon in The Elder Scrolls Online Gates of Oblivion's year-long adventure.

The newest paid expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online, called Blackwood, involves Daedric plots and tyrannical schemes in the region nestled between Elsweyr and Black Marsh. ESO is now live with the Blackwood chapter on PC, in tandem with Update 30. Console players will have to wait a little bit longer for the chapter to go live, with last-gen players getting the expansion on June 8. Whenever the time comes, there are a few different ways players can start their adventuring in Blackwood.

For any new player just starting the game with this newest chapter, they will automatically be taken through a tutorial. Update 30 introduces a brand-new, streamlined tutorial experience for all players, introducing a quick quest on the Isle of Balfiera. The great change with this new tutorial is that any player who completes it can then choose where they want to begin in Tamriel. Existing players who enjoy creating new characters can make use of this feature in the new tutorial as well.

Players have access to the starting zones for each of the MMO's three factions, plus any expansion zone they have unlocked.  Therefore, any player with access to the Blackwood chapter can choose to immediately start their Elder Scrolls Online adventures in the Blackwood zone after the tutorial.

The next way to start the Blackwood chapter is for players to go to their Collections menu. After selecting the "Stories" tab, players can then expand the "Chapter" section. Blackwood should be listed alongside any chapters that haven't been started. This process is likely best for players that are established in the game, and just want to immediately accept the necessary quest.

After players accept the initial quest "A Deadly Secret," they will be directed to find Captain Rian Liore in the city of Leyawiin in Blackwood. While some players may enjoy trekking through different locations in Elder Scrolls Online until they make it to the entrance for the Blackwood zone, there is one easier way.

Any player that has spent some time in The Elder Scrolls Online will know that Wayshrines are the basic way to fast travel through the open-world of Tamriel. From almost anywhere in the game, a player can teleport directly to the first Wayshrine in the Blackwood zone directly from their map. Upon arriving at the Leyawiin Outskirts Wayshrine, players will be greeted by Brigandine Antonius, who will then inform the player of the troubles facing the region.

While there are plenty of different ways to adventure through this MMO game, these are the three ways to begin the new Blackwood chapter for The Elder Scrolls Online. With dozens of hours worth of new content available to players with the new chapter, it is a perfect time to either hop back into the game or pick it up for the first time.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood is available now for PC and Stadia, available on June 8 for PS4 and Xbox One, and available on June 15 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
